On Teaching

My teaching is always individual and adapts to the student’s goals, background, and learning pace. We work with sound, groove, posture, harmony, improvisation, and ensemble playing — not as isolated topics, but as connected elements of a living musical practice.

I encourage students to stay open and curious, to ask questions, and to see learning not as a linear process, but as something that evolves through experience, repetition, and reflection.

I see teaching as a shared process of listening, observing, and discovering. Creating a calm and open space is essential to me — a place where curiosity can grow and learning feels both focused and natural.

A good teacher makes themselves gradually unnecessary. My aim is to support students in developing the tools, awareness, and confidence to work independently and to find their own path with the instrument. Structure and clarity are important, but they only unfold their full potential when combined with joy. Progress creates motivation, and motivation deepens the relationship to sound, time, and musical expression.

Teaching is also a learning process for me. Being in exchange with students, witnessing development, and approaching familiar questions from new perspectives continuously informs my own artistic work. Music, for me, is a place of encounter — with others, with oneself, and with the moment.

I teach private lessons in Berlin and work as a teacher at the Joseph Schmidt Musikschule. Since 2024, I am a lecturer at the International Jazz Workshop. Lessons are open to beginners and advanced students alike.
