Johann Fritsche Quartet

Founded in Leipzig and now based between Berlin and Stockholm, the Johann Fritsche Quartet thrives on opposites. Their music moves between shadow and light — melancholic and brooding one moment, humorous and full of energy the next. This constant play of contrasts gives their sound a raw honesty and a distinctive edge.

Expressive melodies, bold dynamics, and rich tonal colors form the backbone of their style, while the mix of jazz, classical influences, and contemporary grooves keeps the music in constant motion. Nothing is ever static: intimacy collides with irony, lyricism with drive, fragility with power.

It’s this tension between opposing forces that makes the Quartet’s performances so compelling. Each piece feels unpredictable yet deeply personal — like a story told through both laughter and reflection. Their upcoming debut album Cold as Spring captures this identity in full, embracing contradictions to create a sound that is restless, emotional, and unmistakably their own.
